Your baby's first birthday deserves something special. At Laurie Marie Photography, I create beautifully styled cake smash sessions in my Bromsgrove studio, designed around your little one's personality.
From their first individual portraits to the inevitable cake-covered smiles and a lovely splash in the bath, every part of the session is about capturing this little stage of life, just as they are.
Every little one is different, and that's what makes these sessions so special.
My cake smash sessions are designed to be relaxed, playful and completely centred around your baby. I'll take the time to capture their little expressions, curious moments and emerging personality, with plenty of opportunity for them to explore, play and get a little messy!
Each setup is carefully styled using real props, beautiful textures and considered colour palettes, creating something that feels personal rather than just another birthday photoshoot.

Below, you'll find a step by step guide to how your session with me will look.
STEP 01
Family Time
A chance to capture some lovely photographs of your family together before the cake smash begins. These portraits take place in the lower part of the studio, using a softly styled, neutral setting with a beautiful sofa and carefully chosen details to create relaxed, timeless family photographs.

STEP 02
Little Portraits
Before the cake comes out, we'll capture some lovely individual portraits of your little one. A chance to photograph their expressions, smiles and personality while they're still nice and clean.

STEP 03
Cake!
Here's where the fun begins! I'll let your little one explore their birthday cake at their own pace. Some dive straight in; others take a little encouragement. Either way, it's all part of the fun.
STEP 04
Splish Splash
Time to get cleaned up! A lovely warm bubble bath, plenty of bubbles and perhaps a rubber duck or two. Often one of the favourite parts of the session.
We'll finish with some cosy photographs of your little one wrapped up in their towel, capturing those final sleepy smiles and snuggly moments.

Every little detail is considered when creating your baby's cake smash setup. From soft, neutral palettes to pretty pastels and more playful colours, each setting is thoughtfully styled using carefully chosen props, textures and flowers.
Once you're booked in, we'll chat about your preferred colours and ideas to create a setup that feels just right for your little one's first birthday.

FAQ
Do you provide the birthday cake?
I no longer provide cakes due to allergies and dietary requirements. However, I'm always happy to recommend local bakers who can cater to different budgets and requirements.
If supplying you own cake, I always recommend a soft sponge and decorated with fresh cream for extra mess!
What should my baby wear?
Simple outfits work beautifully. I generally recommend soft neutrals or colours that complement your chosen setup. You can also bring an outfit for the cake smash itself.
Can I choose the colours and theme?
Absolutely! I have a selection of beautifully styled setups, and we can discuss colours and styling ahead of your session. My aim is to create something that feels considered and complements your little one's photographs.
Can siblings and parents be included?
Family and sibling portraits are included in the Cherry on Top collection. These are photographed before the cake smash.
What if my baby doesn't like cake?
Don't worry! Every baby reacts differently. Some love getting stuck in, while others prefer to explore with their fingers. There's no pressure to eat or smash the cake. I'll work at your baby's pace.
We've also been know to hide their favourite snacks in the cake for that perfect photo!
How long does it take to receive my photographs?
Your proof gallery is usually ready within seven days. Once you've selected your favourite images, your final professionally edited photographs are delivered within three weeks.
